Where to find custom graphite molds?
Where to find custom graphite molds?
I've looked online through a few search engines to no avail. I find the same old stuff. I'm either looking for molds which I can use to make knife and axe blanks for aluminum bronze, or someone willing to do other custom designs with a CNC, as I do not currently have direct access to one at the moment. Anyone out there that either does this or know of someone that does this?
Thank you ahead of time.
I have been making graphite molds and hobby casting for a couple years now. I learned how to make my own because of not being able to find anyone to make what I wanted. Recently started selling some of my 2 part graphite coin molds (puts both sides of custom coins in one pour). Just finished a 2 part chess king/queen/pawn graphite mold today. If you have any graphite mold custom requests, shoot me a message.
Maybe look on Etsy or just for online cnc services. Or reach out to some local machine shops with cncs to see if they'll do it
Graphite molds are extremely heat resistant, they do not warp, the accuracy of your cast is better and the finish is much smoother. It is also easy to machine on a Cnc router.

Now specific reason, I could use other stuff as well, graphite is the only type I know other than iron which is more used for gold/silver type stuff.
You will want to look into sand casting, I don't think you'll achieve reasonable results for your goals with a graphite mold
If you really want a decent quality casting with a fine surface, look into lost wax casting.
If they can cast artificial joints and even turbocharger turbines to near net shape, you should be able to cast whatever you want.
DM me if you want more info. I made lost wax molds professionally for years.
I've watched a few videos on it, so I'm more than interested in giving that a try. I have a 3d printer with a large enough base to do the lost PLA method for most blades except maybe like a short bronze sword, but could probably still manage that in parts. what type of sand and what type of medium do you dip the mold into?
